Rowan University Arboretum

Highlights:

  • Founded and co-led the Rowan University Arboretum, including conceptualizing, planning, team building, course integration, managing collaborations, and project development.
  • Designed the Arboretum to create real-world, experiential learning opportunities for students in courses and internships.
  • Leveraged our campus as a resource to inspire new learning, research, and creative ideas.
  • Built a diverse and collaborative team of faculty, administrators, and students to work together on building the project.
  • Successfully curated approximately 1,800 trees.
  • Managed the design and development of the website and collaborated on the design of campus signage.
  • Hired, trained, and managed paid student assistants to photograph trees, document metadata, build website pages, and create scientific illustrations.
  • Taught research methods, writing, mapping tools, and media design topics, including image, video, and audio editing.
  • Integrated the project into multiple courses, such as Plant Diversity, Art and Environment, Entomology, Environmental Studies, and Writing Arts courses.
  • Achieved Arbnet accreditation in 2024.
  • Collaborated on monthly guided Arboretum walking tours, including advising, promoting, and co-managing tour registrations.

Glassboro Memory Mapping Project

Highlights

  • Co-founded and co-led the Glassboro Memory Mapping Project, including planning, developing collaborations, course integrations, obtaining and digitizing materials, and designing and developing the digital archive website.
  • Developed and managed an innovative community partnership between Rowan University Libraries, an Honors Cultural Geography course, the  Glassboro Historical Society, and the Heritage Glass Museum. 
  • Successfully integrated the project into Cultural Geography, US History, Public History, Digital Humanities, and Studio Art Courses.
  • Taught and supervised students in properly handling historical materials and digitizing and documenting approximately 1,500 items using Dublin Core metadata.
  • Provided students with real-world, experiential learning opportunities through working with diverse, multigenerational community members in documenting memories and preserving endangered historical material and information related to the history of Glassboro, NJ.
  • Successfully created a publicly accessible online digital archive related to the history and development of Glassboro, NJ.
  • Increased student and community emotional attachment, intellectual curiosity, and appreciation for Glassboro’s diverse and dynamic heritage.
  • The project was used to create the Glassboro Legacy Mural on the Town Square.
  • Planned, recorded, and integrated over 60 oral histories into the project.

Rowan University’s Public Art Project

Highlights

  • Founded and led the Rowan University Public Art Project as an educational resource to inspire new student research and creative projects about campus spaces and public art. 
  • Organized and facilitated a collaborative team that included the Rowan University Art Gallery, University Publications, University Relations, University Planning, Art History and Geography faculty, and Librarians.
  • Researched public art and university campuses and conceptualized and planned the project, including developing a written project plan.
  • Hired and directed a part-time graphic designer and several paid student assistants. 
  • Designed and developed the website to create real-world experiential learning opportunities for students, including photography, research, writing, mapping, and website development.
  • Wrote and integrated public art lessons that explored creativity, critical thinking, art making, and other topics. 
  • Successfully advocated for integrating the project into courses, including numerous sessions of Art Appreciation, Art Criticism, Participatory Public Art, Smell Studio, Art & Environment Studio, Aesthetics, Urban Geography, Cultural Geography, and Writing Arts courses.

New Jersey Women’s History Project

Highlights

  • Managed the project transfer from the Alice Paul Institute to Rowan University Libraries, including updating the WordPress website, resolving security issues, and reviewing images for copyright.
  • Collaborated with the Rowan University History Department on planning the project’s use in courses and internships, including introducing the project and teaching library research and digital humanities, tools, and methods in classes.
  • Co-supervised several internships where students researched topics, wrote historical biographies, and created bibliographies and questions to explore further. 
  • Hired, trained, and directed student assistants in selecting and editing images, researching subjects, and writing biographies for the project.
  • Oversaw a complete redevelopment of the website using WordPress and various plugins.
  • Worked to integrate the project within the high school curriculum through meeting with several high school social studies curriculum supervisors and teachers

Miss America Digital Collection

Highlights

  • Led the creation of the Miss America Digital Collection, including selecting materials, planning and organizing transportation of artifacts, digitization and photography shoots, and security of artifacts such as crowns, scepters, jewelry, clothing, paintings, and private data and correspondences.  
  • Collaborated with the Miss America Organization to digitize their substantial archive.
  • Collaborated with the Provost’s Office, the Associate Provost of the Library, the Dean of Humanities, the American Studies faculty, and Librarians.
  • Hired, trained, managed, and reviewed a team of five student assistants and two part-time staff.
  • Communicated with Miss Americas and families to gain information for accurate metadata documentation.
  • Photographed approximately 120 framed artworks, including documenting metadata and researching and identifying the artists.
  • Led team in digitizing approximately 30,000 items, including crowns, scepters, jewelry, clothing, pageant catalogs, books, historic photos, letters, and other materials.
  • Communicated with the news media about the project and worked with student assistants to prepare for interviews.
  • Collaborated with an American Studies faculty member on course visits to learn about digitization and on several campus events.

Glassboro Summit Collection

Highlights

  • Led the development of the Glassboro Summit Collection, including planning and team building.

  • Collaborated with University Publications on branding and accessing their archive.
  • Collaborated with librarians on Dublin Core metadata and timeline development.
  • Art directed and assisted with coding and developing the digital collection using Omeka.
  • Integrated features to the website to accept photos, stories, and other media from the public.
  • Hired, managed, and reviewed a team of paid student assistants, interns, and a part-time website designer.
  • Manage web server, including arranging domain mapping.
  • Co-supervised interns who researched the Glassboro Summit and assisted with writing metadata and descriptions.
  • Presented on the project and the Glassboro Summit in numerous Rowan University history courses.
